Frequently Asked Questions

Are you guys a venue? Can my band play at your venue?

Unfortunately, we do not have our own permanent venue space. Currently, we work with already-existing venues to put on all-ages events. We are all volunteer, so for a show to happen, one of the volunteer bookers must be interested in taking the time to make it happen. Also, because we are volunteer-run, we just can't take on too many events, and we try to space them out according to need. We are more inclined to help a band that needs to play all ages shows, such as due to having members under 21, or that doesn't really have the access to or interest in playing more traditional venue spaces (such as experimental/noise artists).

Are you planning on getting a venue?

We are not actively looking for a space, but if the right situation came along we would definitely be interested in doing a venue. Preferably in San Francisco as there are not really any dedicated all ages spaces serving the community here.

How do I volunteer with Club Sandwich?

If you write expressing an interest in volunteering, we will probably ask you to come to a show and introduce yourself. Areas we need immediate help with are flyering (design as well as posting flyers), sound engineering, web help, and making sandwiches to sell at shows. If you are interested taking a more active role in the collective (such as booking shows), we would take that on a case by case basis and would expect more of a commitment than a casual volunteer - come get to know us by volunteering! The easiest way to get started would be to just show up at one of our shows and say hi!

Why can't I just set up my own shows?

You totally can! The more the merrier! If you see a gap in our programming it is because there are only a few of us doing booking and we tend to have our own tastes and interests. Being volunteer-based, that is our main motivation to do the shows that we do.

When I buy a t-shirt or a sandwich? where does the money go?

Good question. We now have t-shirts online - Go Here!
We have a general bank that is used for expenses like web hosting, photocopying flyers, and buying sound equipment and sandwich supplies. The moneys go back to shows in other words. . Our friend Jeronimo designed the ones we have now, and Shawn Reed (of Iowa City's Racoo-oo-oon) designed one also.

I love what you guys do but I live in (___) and your shows always run late and I don't wanna miss BART...

Our main suggestion would be to do what all of us who live in more far-out areas do when going to SF from the East Bay and vice versa... start talking to people at shows! Chances are you will meet someone coming from the same area who you can carpool with. You could also making a craigslist post. If you want to take it to the next level, you could even start a carpool e-mail list or message board for shows. Though it's not currently on our to-do list (and it's long, and boy are we tired!), a rideshare board on our website is possibility for the future.

Why do you insist on only doing all ages shows?

For one, there is already a plentiful bar scene here in the Bay Area. More importantly though, is that we believe that a healthy music scene depends on youth. A music scene that does not have age restrictions also incubates the next generation of artists and provides an alternative to the mass produced mainstream arena concert or church-sponsored all ages shows that are the default entertainment for the underage. To us, it seems ridiculous that San Francisco would not have a space like this. Also, as the many bands who regularly choose to play all-ages shows over bars would agree, shows that are more community-minded and inclusive are often just more fun!
